SPEAQ MEMBERSHIP

Eligibility

Membership in SPEAQ is open to any individual interested in the teaching of English as a second language.

Categories of membership

There are four (4) categories of membership :

  • Regular membership, of persons who pay the regular membership fee for the current year;

  • Sustaining membership, of all former presidents of the Association who have completed a full term of office. Sustaining members are not required to pay the annual membership fee;

  • Associate membership, of persons registered in full time studies at a recognized institution of higher learning or retirees;

  • Honorary lifetime membership, conferred in extraordinary circumstances by unanimous consent of the Board of Directors on persons who may be deemed worthy by virtue of their exemplary service to the Association.

 


Responsibilities

All members of the Association shall :

  • pay the annual dues assessed for their category of membership, within the time limit determined by the Board of Directors. No rights or privileges of membership may accrue retroactively;

  • support the aims and objectives of the Association;

  • refrain from taking a public position, when acting in an official capacity for the Association, contrary to the publicly stated position of the Association on a current issue, or in contradiction of SPEAQ's aims and objectives.


Rights and privileges

All members of the Association will:

  • receive advance notice of, and the Agenda for, all Annual General Meetings and Special General Assemblies;

  • receive in advance of the deadline forms for the nomination of members to the Board of Directors of the Association;

  • have the right to speak, the right to present or second a motion, and the right to vote at any Annual General Meeting or Special General Assembly of the Association;

  • receive upon request copies of the Minutes of the Annual General Meeting or a Special General Assembly, with all addenda;

  • receive a copy of the Constitution and Bylaws of the Association, and all revisions to these;

  • receive all publicity produced by the Association, and such publications as the Board of Directors may make available free of charge;

  • receive a membership card and a receipt for any dues which they have paid to the Association.

To be a member of SPEAQ has its privileges and makes you part of an association that works on your behalf to advance the cause of TESL in Québec.
