RASCALS COLLOQUIUM 2009

Château Mont-Ste-Anne

May 28 and 29

2009

The Next Generation: U B there 2 :-) !!!!

You loved the cocktail in the garden, the gala dinner with no need to drive to your hotel elsewhere,  the dancing in the hotel bar, the hot tubs, the swimming pool, and (as ever) the stimulating lectures, workshops and chats with your far-flung colleagues who come every year from near and far for the RASCALS colloquium.

This was RASCALS 2008, hosted for the first time at a hotel, Château Bromont in the Eastern Townships, by Cegep Andre-Laurendeau.

What is in store for us this year?  RASCALS 2009 is on!  The Language Department at College Montmorency is the host committee, having accepted to organize RASCALS with the expert help of SPEAQ.

This year’s colloquium will take place May 28 and 29, once again at an idyllic hotel, the renowned Château Mont-Ste-Anne just up the river from Quebec City.  This year we will begin with a lunch on Thursday and end as usual Friday afternoon after lunch.

Cost

Like last year, there will be an all-included fee for the conference, your room, the Thursday evening cocktail, the meals – lunch and dinner Thursday, breakfast and lunch Friday – health breaks, parking and access to hotel facilities.  As an example, this package will cost $330.26 (tax included) based on double-occupancy.

Presenters

As you know, the organizers of RASCALS 2009 are off to a later start than usual; stay tuned to the RASCALS webpage and e-mails for updates on the content of this year’s colloquium.  However, there is no need to fear; the Montmorency host committee will take full advantage of the steering committee and of the RASCALS community at large to assemble a list of enriching speakers.

Registration begins now! Space is limited, so please register early.

RASCALS COLLOQUIUM 2008

    2008

And Now for Something Completely Different

Imagine sitting on a beautiful terrace sipping your cocktail, contemplating the pedagogical brilliance of your first workshop speaker, as you gaze at the picturesque beauty that is the Eastern Townships.  Suddenly, your peaceful repose is disturbed by a fellow colleague enjoying the warm titillating bubbles of the hot tub.

With an impish look comes the challenge: “Join me” … and you do.

Welcome to RASCALS 2008, hosted by the Language Department of Cegep Andre-Laurendeau.  It is our turn again after almost 20 years and in keeping with our theme, And Now for Something Completely Different, we have decided to do something … well …different.

Where and when?

This year’s colloquium will be held May 29-30, 2008, but not at our Cegep.  Chateau Bromont in the Eastern Townships is the venue for RASCALS 2008.  It will begin Thursday afternoon with a keynote speaker and end Friday afternoon, with a plenary session.  We hope the parts in between will be professionally enriching and socially memorable.

 Price

The format has changed dramatically, but not the price.  The registration fees will include not only the conference but also your room, a cocktail on the beautiful terrace at the Chateau, a four course dinner at their award-winning restaurant Thursday evening, breakfast, health breaks, lunch on Friday, parking, and access to all the facilities at the Chateau.  This entire package costs only $265.00 based on double occupancy.

 Presenters

Over the last two months, the organizing committee has been hard at work scouring the academic world for fascinating lecturers and researchers to share their expertise at RASCALS 2008.  This year, there will be six university presenters who will lead workshops focusing on a number of different themes.  As part of the new format, there will be fewer workshops, but they will last a little longer.  In keeping with tradition at RASCALS, there will be some peer presentations, but fewer than in previous years.

Sound good so far?  Well, that’s not all, but you will have to join us on May 29-30, 2008 to find out what more there is.  Space is very limited and you will need to book early if you want to be at RASCALS 2008.

Registration begins February 22, 2008.  Spaces are limited, so you must register early.
